Benjamin SCHERREY

Benjamin Scherrey  (@proteusguy) is founder & Chief Systems Architect of Proteus Technologies (http://proteus-tech.com/), a company founded to demonstrate how one can create innovative software in Asia by Asians. By providing true technical career paths (which are practically non-existent in Asia) and implementing Agile concepts throughout every aspect of the company he did just that and now works diligently to help foster the technical startup scene in SEAsia.

Prior to moving to Asia, Ben worked as a consultant for high risk and critical projects for enterprise companies in the United States and beyond since 1989. While officially tasked with creating the required product, Ben found the most effective focus of his efforts concentrated on building the team that would build the product. By identifying and introducing open standard technologies, agile processes & techniques, as well as training & hiring strong talent for a team capable of both building the initial product and taking the company forward in control of its own destiny, the value Ben delivers goes beyond the initial specified requirements of the project. Having created more than a dozen software development groups for clients around the world, Proteus Technologies is his attempt to build a team “his way” free of the inevitable interference of corporate politics. Ben can and does talk about this for hours.

Outside of the software industry, Ben is an insatiable fan of live indie music and often acts as a promotor, photographer, and “patron of the arts” as Chief Fan of Biggest Fan Productions ( http://biggestfan.net ), his vehicle to promote independent musicans and artists. He reassures himself that one day he will make time to pickup his bass guitar again and show these kids what real punk jazz sounds like.
